Matt Sullivan, Flight Paramedic

Matt has been in search of flow states since before he knew what he was looking for. His first mountain bike was a Huffy "stars and stripes", you know - banana seat, ape hangers, single speed & coaster breaks. No helmet + Chuck Taylor’s.

As an adult Matt continued to evade adulthood by snowboarding, even before lift access was an option. He grew to love earning his turns in the backcountry. He explored windsurfing, mountain biking and whitewater (on inner tubes) before getting in with a "bad crowd" - the wildland forest fire crews ;)

Matt later became a structural fireman and paramedic in Albuquerque, on the busiest trucks in town. Mountain biking and trail running became a way of dealing with the stresses of work and connecting with like-minded fanatics. He Took up Xterra tri’s for a few years with invitations to nationals and completed his one and only Ironman. Suddenly Matt found himself 22 years down the road and retired from the fire department.

Matt moved to Durango to escape the Burque’ recently, to become a Flight medic with Flight for Life Colorado. His days are still spent chasing flow states on the bike or active meditation while trail running the San Juan’s. Playing outside is by far the best way to help himself and friends with management of the stresses that come along with EMS and first responds. For that final reason, Matt is joining TeamEMS - to encourage EMS Balance in our community.
